There is a time to grow, and a time to reap. Right now, it really feels like we are sewing some seeds around here. Literally and figuratively. In times like these where it can feel like all we are doing is passing time, a garden is a really good idea.

There is something beautiful about planting a tomato and then being able to feed it to your kids knowing you are the one who cared for it.  It has also been an incredible way for my picky kids to learn about food without even having to say a word. You don’t need anything fancy + you really could start off with seeds and a few cups then eventually move them into pots if you don’t want to make more of an investment.

It feels good to watch something grow. After sharing our little family garden over on Instagram I got lots of questions on how to start your own so here is my step by step guide and list of what you will need!! Also a little tour of our family garden + lots of resources to make gardening for your family quick and SIMPLE!

My children love it and it is a project you and your entire family can tackle and care for with the confidence that it is pretty hard to mess up a veggie garden. Here is what you need to start + where you can pick it up or have it shipped to your house. Obviously Home Depot and Lowes have plants available as well as your local hardware store, but if you don’t want to venture out there are so many options available at your finger tips!!! That being said there are lots of places you can order from online and pull up and pick up or you can order from a local nursery/CSA and they will put it right in your car.

But most of all… BE BOLD. YOU CAN DO IT. IF I CAN GROW A GARDEN, SO CAN YOU!

  1. Potting soil (online pick up at Target or a local Nursery + Amazon as well. Links below)
  2. Plants or Seeds (Try a local Nursery for plants, or amazon + Grocery store for seeds.)
  3. Pots or a Raised Bed
  4.  Some sort of Fertilizer to feed the plants and make sure they get a good start
  5. Tomato Cages for Tomatoes ? (the grow fast and tall and you want to contain them)

This is a little book on Raised Beds for Beginners that you can download and read if you want more info!
