Ok, I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with one of my real life besties Landyn Hutchinson on her awesome podcast Living With Landyn and we chatted about so many fun things including my daughter Lulu’s room and her drapes!

Yes drapes. They are so beautiful, they are a gorgeous oatmeal color and they hang just right. I’m so proud of them. They also came from Lowes. Yes, Lowes!

So, when Lulu and I were dreaming up her room I REALLLLY wanted linen drapes. Drapes are such a huge investment I wanted something that would look great year after year and Linen is such a classic option. It’s also SUPER DUPER expensive. So my girl Annie at My Swallows Nest suggested drop cloth. Yes, like the kind painters use. She showed me some photos of some slipcovered pieces and drapes in her own home and let me in on her little secret that I am now sharing with YOU!

Yall drop cloth looks JUST like linen and for a heck of a lot less! You can use this to cover ottomans, chairs, tables I mean the sky is the limit here!

Here are the tricks to making it work!

1.  Measure for your panel width + length and head on over to Lowes or Home Depot or Amazon and pick up the drop cloth you need from the painting aisle!

2. Wash it. Dry it. Now wash it again. You want to make sure it does all the shrinking it’s gonna do before you get started.

3. Maybe you sew, I don’t so I had my friend do the heavy lifting but if you don’t want to hire a seamstress you could also get Hem Adhesive and do this yourself. My sister did this with drop cloth and created a GORGEOUS slip cover for an ottoman.

4. If you are doing drapes I highly recommend lining them with a blackout lining. It helps filter light and also gives them the weight of a beautiful $$ drape. This one just hooks onto the back of your drapes or you can have it sewn in and you can pick that up at a JoAnns!

5. Drapery hooks spaced 4-5’’ apart to hang on rings really make these drapes look their best. I love the look of rings instead of a rod pocket drape. It just slides better and looks $$$.

Okay, that’s it! Don’t be afraid to go for it!! Get creative. What do you have to loose?!
